Fred -
You didn't say you were taking your wife to Oshkosh! Mine has put me on
notice (from before we were married, even) that she would NEVER camp there.
Not that the camping accommodations are bad -- they are actually very good.
But without a real bathroom ten feet away and a coffeepot perking when you
wake, she's not interested. I imagine many family members, generally less
consumed by aviation than we are, feel similarly. Do yourselves and your
families a favor -- if they're not avid campers or avid airplane nuts, stay in
a hotel (or the dorms).
(As an aside, I bought her a one-cup coffeemaker at K-Mart last year. Brews
right into your mug. We have a tiny cube refrigerator as a nightstand -- it
holds the coffee cream. She doesn't even have to get out of bed to make her
morning coffee! I was a hero for setting this up, but it makes the Oshkosh
camping likelihood even smaller than before...)
Have fun in the dorms. Every morning as I trudge thru the campgrounds to a
porta-potty and a crowded shower, I'll be jealous. I tell myself each first
Oshkosh morning that I'll stay in a hotel next year, but once I'm done with
the morning shower (at 6 am!) it becomes a beautiful day, and I'm glad I
camped.
See you there!
