Great routes in Steve's reply. I like the Chicago -> Casper WY -> Southern Idaho valley -> Redmond for maintaining contact with reasonable ground amenities, but Jackson Hole would be a great overnight.
BTW - I agree that the BBQ doesn't make it. Not even East of the Mississippi. BUT, the people, planes & race are incomparable. I would love to make this my third trip, but it won't work with the cast on my right (throttle) arm.
