Why use a trim tab at all?  Consider a Mac = servo=20 controlled, spring-biased, aileron trim system. Such systems are = utilized in=20 Bonanzas, Cozys, the Cirrus SR20 and others.
 
I have the hinge section, servo controlled = aileron trim.=20 Although it works well, I hardly ever use it. If I were doing it over = again,=20 I'd follow Scott's recomendation and use a small spring=20 system.
