Jack,
Thanks for the note on this. Jim White and I also bought the Lancair
soundproofing kit, and have left it boxed up on the shelf due to the weight.
I've ridden in several Lancairs that had no soundproofing, and they didn't
seem too noisy to me (partial hearing loss from flying back seat in the
Phantom for many years). Do you think soundproofing is needed/a worthwhile
improvement? One reason for not pursuing this was the large number of
fittings/connections on the back of the firewall that must be
accommodated--very hard to get good, continuous coverage.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this, as we're at a critical time for
this in our projects.

I purchased Lancair soundproof package for my IVP. It is bulky and heavy.
One of our local EAA chapter members works for EAR which specializes in
aircraft interior noise control. Gulfstream is one of their local
customers. After examining Lancair's soundproofing package he was amazed
that we were putting such a low grade material in such a high end aircraft.
What I showed him was the same material that EAR would have recommended for
an 18 wheeler cabin.
