YES I know how to read a manual. It is a problem of not enough backlight because of the technology not how it is installed. The unit does not work in direct or bright light, period. My Garmin 430 works well in all lighting situations that is not the case for the Sandel. I have designed and manufactured laptop computers for the last 15 years. I do understand backlight technology. The Sandel unit is a great product except for the one issue. It is important to see the unit in all lighting situations.
