I spend to many hours thinking about this and to little building, but another point would be to sit in the right seat and leave all the control as they are. By swapping the left and right hand sides of the instrument panel with all instruments connected via quick release plugs, and using instrument panel inserts you would be able to re-configure to the "normal" configuration.
