Our SWEG (scientific wild-eyed guess) caused us to drop the canopy gas strut
bracket about 3/4 inch down the firewall--the sweg plus the fact that the
carbon fiber reinforcement had a bump in it that wouldn't allow the bracket
to lie flush against the firewall any further down).  The top of the bracket
is now 14 7/8 in. below the bottom surface of the hinge bracket--on both
brackets, imagine that. I'd err on the side of being a little farther down
rather than a little higher up, but I'd try to get it right where it is, if
doing it again. It works fine, the canopy opens wide as I mentioned, and
about 1/2 of the canopy skin sticks above the fuselage, rather than having a
3/16 in. gap as before(total improvement of about 1/4 in). Blind hog found
an acorn. No warranties, but it worked for me.    Wendell Durr
