I have been flying my L4P for 90 hours now. I have the heat kit, the SFS, and
air conditioning.
This is my input. The heating is needed and I don't know why it is an option.
At high altitude I have to use heat and the main thing that gets cold is your
feet. Most of the time your sitting in the sun. I have yet to use the AC and
the heat but it seems that that situation may arise. The heat kit mainly puts
the outlets low by your feet. Any use of the Defroster will be short because
it is so noisy. Even with Bose X headsets you won't believe the noise. The
fogging up of the windows mainly happens after I have had the AC on and after
climbing to 12K or so I turn it off. After a while the side windows fog up.
My solution is to turn on the AC but turn down the controls to low, this
works perfect. I almost always turn the AC off above 15K.
My AHRS for the SFS is located above the FS208 and this has been moved twice
before. And guess what I think it may be moved again. I also have two TruTrak
autopilot servos mounted on the lower backside of the same bulkhead and one
is within 3 inches of the AHRS. This is a strong magnet and needs to be
calibrated out of the AHRS firmware. We have done that but still has other
problems. On this road to detail shake down it looks like ongoing
improvements are taking place daily and may include a fully shielded AHRS. My
input is to be working with the best shop that knows the latest and beware of
the shop that thinks you just plug it in and everything is fine (Lancair
Avionics). The tail of my airplane has Air Conditioning condenser with fan,
Ryan TCAD box, Stormscope with antenna, Two AP servos, one GPS antenna, plus
one com antenna. That is a lot to ask of an AHRS to operate in that
environment, let alone the fact that is gets down to -35* back there at
altitude. Then you turn on the AC while on the ground at 90* plus outside.
This stuff amazes me it works as good as it does.
