My present airplane, a 30 year old Bonanza, with tip tanks, and turbo
normalizer, allows me to go non-stop to either NYC or LAX - - from Oklahoma,
IFR. I can do that in pretty much any weather, except hard winter icing.
I can do it faster than I can on the airlines.
It is a genuine transportation machine.
The range is the issue. It doesn't go a lot of good to go 300knots at
FL250, if you have to stop every 2 hours.
As one friend I know put, adding tip tanks to his airplane was the biggest
speed enhancer available for the airplane.
I predict a lot of pilots will get into serious fuel trouble with the
turbine singles... if they ever try to use the airplane for serious and
reliable travel purposes.
Just my view.
