I have one of the earliest ACK ELTs mounted under the left forward seat
pan. When I first got it
was set off quite often when I was transmitting. There was a notice posted
in one of the magazines
that if this happened the unit was to be sent back to ACK. I sent mine back
to them and they put a
ferrite (?) on the telephone type cable that goes to the control unit and
some internal changes. The
unit has never gone off since except for tests. I did have lots of RF
related problems when my plane
was new. Mostly caused by the cheap intercom I was using. RF even lit my
gear lights. The RV guys
don't have RF problems in their planes because the antennae are outside and
RF won't go through Al.
I still set off my gear warning horn when I transmit sometime.
I dismissed Marvs concern about the crushing of fiberfax too quickly,
because the 235 only called
for 1 layer of fiberfax, and that did not distort the SS.
