Reposted for:  Bird strikes

There is an authenticated record of an Air Force plane colliding  with a turkey vulture at 42,000 feet.  (Must have been one helluva thermal!)  Everest climbers have also reported seeing migrating geese  above them at altitudes over 20,000 feet.  Anyway, beware, because bird strikes are not exclusively a low-altitude problem.
