A balun is composed of toroids. Usually you have 3 toroids threaded on the
coax, spaced about 1/8" apart at the antenna end of the coax. They are used
mainly on homebuilt antennae. Commercial ones may or may not call for the
installation of the balun. I would use them on all antennae that you make
yourself out of copper foil.
