Yes, removing the peel-ply is the pain in the butt that you are finding it
to be. I used a good small pair of needle-nose pliers and a new sharp putty
knife.  I also used gloves some of the time to minimize shredding of the
knuckles. The D-sections are the worst. I did not find a fast way of
getting it off.
