On the subject of jacks, after fooling around with my mickey mouse units, I
realised that I can simply lift the front of the plane with my engine hoist
through the lifting ring on the engine (engine installed naturally). I then
slide my large jack stands under the main spare, shim to level and I'm done.
The tail sits on a saw horse and is weighted down with salt bags (we use that
stuff for water softeners). There's not been a hint of shifting or movement
after a lot of crawling inside. Sitting the plane on the main spar works so
well that I haven't tried the pre-installed jack pads yet.
