You're absolutely correct - a homeowner's policy will not cover "aircraft
parts."  I have insured my Lancair IVP project during construction through
AON Risk Services, 1-800-835-2677.  They use U.S. Specialty Insurance
Company.  My policy is $812 per year for $150,000 of coverage with a $200
deductible.  They indicate that they will extend the insurance to flight
after the plane is completed and AFTER the first 25 hours of flight.  No
price on that yet!  Good luck.
