Today we would like to inform you about the TAE 125, being ready for serial production just one year after its first flight. The production is going to start in November 2001 in Lichtenstein/Germany. Meanwhile the TAE 125 with 135 hp at ISA conditions is a more than equivalent engine to the Lycoming O-320. Installed in a Piper PA 28 Warrior III with the maximum take-off weight of 1108 kg the following figures have been accomplished: - The original engine-prop combination of the O-320 has a static thrust of 210 kg, resulting in a take-off roll distance of 310 m with a flap position of 25 Degrees. In comparison, the 265 kg static thrust of the TAE 125 allow a take-off roll distance of 272 m. At a density altitude of 2000 ft and 25 Degrees Centigrate the TAE 125 needs a take-off roll distance of 300 m. At the same conditions the Piper with an O-320 needs a take-off roll distance of 460 m. - The Lycoming engine suffers power loss during climb due to altitude. In the TAE 125 the turbocharger compensates the power loss. A PA 28 with the TAE 125 reaches the altitude of 10.000 ft within 19 min. Equipped with the Lycoming O-320 it takes the PA 28 30 min to climb to the same altitude. - The prop speed of the TAE 125 is 2300 rpm at take-off and 1900 rpm at cruising speed. The prop speed of the Lycoming engines is 100-800 rpm faster. With the lower prop speed and the 3-blade Muehlbauer prop, the efficiency of the hydraulic constant speed propeller was increased to 84 Percent. This results in the fact that, on FL 60 at a speed of 105 KIAS, equalling 115 KTAS, the TAE 125 needs only 97 hp. - An O-320 needs 115 hp for the same speed, achieving an efficiency of 71%. The result of the high efficiency of the TAE 125 is a fuel consumption of only 17.5 l/h Diesel. For the same cruising speed the Lycoming burns 36 l/h Avgas. With the TAE the operating costs are reduced by 70 Percent, due to the better fuel economy and the lower fuel price. After more than 120 successful testing hours with the Piper PA 28 and TAE 125, the third test aircraft with the TAE Diesel engine, a Cessna 172, is going to take off for its first flight in a few days. As part of our in-flight testing programme and more than 5000 test bench hours, we have carried out numerous tests for the JAR-E certification. We are expecting the certification for the first months of the year 2002. The engines will be available through our distribution partners, Piper Germany and Rheinland Air Service for Europe and Superior Air Parts Inc. for the US. The complete conversion kit costs approx. 40000,- Euro excl. VAT and includes engine, FADEC-system, cooling system, frame, propeller and installation. The kits will be available from the first quarter 2002.
