Yes, the factory is right. Only the straight valved 360 will fit the
stock cowl of the Lancair 360. I had to rebuild my cowl to fit the 200
hp version. Was it worth it??? Yes. A 200 hp [to start with]
IO-360 with 10:1 pistons, flowed and balanced, etc. performs
W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L-L-Y. I did not need to build a special oil cooler
scoop either. The air intake holes on the front of the cowl are
substantially larger than the stock 320 holes, though; and I use two oil
coolers in series [one on each side of the engine at the rear]. Don't
worry about the extra weight. These birds need more weight up front
anyway, and remember, that extra weight all goes to extra horsepower.
Took me a lot of extra time to build that cowl though.
