For Mike Reinath,

Yes, the factory is right.   Only the straight valved 360 will fit the
stock cowl of the Lancair 360.   I had to rebuild my cowl to fit the 200
hp version.  Was it worth it???   Yes.   A 200 hp [to start with]
IO-360 with 10:1 pistons, flowed and balanced, etc.  performs
W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L-L-Y.  I did not need to build a special oil cooler
scoop either.  The air intake holes on the front of the cowl are
substantially larger than the stock 320 holes, though; and I use two oil
coolers in series [one on each side of the engine at the rear].  Don't
worry about the extra weight.  These birds need more weight up front
anyway, and remember, that extra weight all goes to extra horsepower.
Took me a lot of extra time to build that cowl though.

Ken,   N15KH
