impulse-coupled mag be set at 0 degrees? Does it then advance 25
degrees as the RPM comes up?<<

No, set the mags after the impulse has been tripped.  The impulse delays or
retards the spark only when starting.  After the rpms come up to over
approximately 300 then the impulse is out of the picture and you get normal
timing.
