I only have one reply. Who do you think deems an aircraft airworthy before flight??? I'm not arguing about wether the aircraft is airworthy or not......That's not my decision....I wasn't flying the dang thing and didn't inspect it to make a decision.....neither did you. The PIC determines whether a craft is airworthy or not.....no one else. Yours, mine, and everyone elses monetary risk has nothing to do with it. <<< Curtis, I understand your point about the PIC making the final decision, and I agree with the fundamental tenet that the PIC has the final authority to make the decision. HOWEVER - if you "have a difficult time hearing this from a fellow pilot", who would you choose to hear it from? Your insurance agent, in the form of higher (or unavailable) premiums, the FAA in the form of more restrictive regulations, or your undertaker? If pilots can't discuss the decisions made, who can? While I agree with your premise that the PIC must make the decision, I don't agree with your implication that any old decision - because it's made by a PIC - is therefore the correct one and can't be criticized. We need to discuss the decisions themselves, sometimes critically, to help all pilots learn to make better ones. I have to say my reaction reading the account of the Iceland flight was the same as Mr. Edwards' - namely, what the ? was that guy thinking taking off over the north Atlantic without a window, without a trim system, and parts of the control surfaces held in place with duct tape??? C'mon. If someone can't point out that this was not the wisest of moves, then what the heck _is_ an available topic of discussion? -Jon Carlson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
