I chose John Spry's shocks, even though a bit heavier, because I felt that even if the shock failed, I would still have the springs themselves carrying the load and then at that point the performance wouldn't be much different than the original rubber shocks. If I understand correctly, if Ong's Debongers lose pressure, you'd be low (prop clearance would suffer), and you wouldn't even have springs, except what is available from the tires. Since I transitioned from a Thorp T-18, I was used to 'springy,' but there was more height to play with and lower landing speeds. The Lancair just seemed too light on its feet for me, and I feel that the shocks have been beneficial in making the plane seem to settle down better on landing. Charles R.
