I also apparently have some "concavity" in my MKII FB elevators (Tri-split
kit, 1994 vintage) as mentioned by Angier. With seemingly quite many
builders experiencing this, I just can't imagine that it is a serious
"defect" that Lancair let slip through. Has anyone called them regarding
same? Please recall a past discussion here in LML Land regarding these
same elevators and the fact that the LE of the elevators are "fatter" than
the TE of the HS, (a "bump up" at the HS-to-elevator junction). Per
Lancair, this is an improvement/upgrade to allow for better airflow
"attachment" as it transitions from the HS to the elevators. I wonder if
this same thickening of the elevator front spar (to achieve the "bump-up")
also, somehow, resulted in some "concavity" and it is all part of the
elevator redesign/upgrade ...??? In any event, I don't plan on filling in
this minor "concave" and adding the associated weight unless someone
convinces me that it is indeed a safety issue. For the sake of time and
weight, I will live with any aesthetic penalty ...
