"AOPA e-pilot today has an article proclaming American Engine LLC will have
eight Lancair Four's within 60 days that will have a 550 hp V-8 engine and
will make 340 kts."
Would that it were true! My Eagle 540 (#5 if memory serves) from American
Engine is delayed by problems beyond their control. The turbochargers are
manufactured by Garrett. Garrett was acquired by another company some months
ago. The new proprietor moved the tooling to a new site and has as yet not
resumed production. We are waiting for a part we cannot manufacture on our
own...
BTW, while at the shop in March, the first flight reports came in. At 12,000
feet and 45% power, the Eagle L-IV-P was showing 212 KIAS. I'll leave that
to the slipstick crowd to convert.
