Subject: Wastegate?... we don't need no stinkin' wastegate!

But I'd still rather have one. While cruising leisurely at 10000' and ~22"
MAP, suddenly the plane began to accelerate hard and I realized that my MAP
was at 38" and climbing. I quickly reduced throttle as it hit 40" and found
it easily controllable, using far less throttle movement than previously. It
was a bit touchy but no reason to cut the flight immediately. Examination
after landing showed that the actuator diaphragm is leaking, so boost
pressure is unable to open the wastegate. Ground tests proved that I could
still keep the MAP under control as our Ozzie friend always said "the
throttle is the primary boost control" (or something like that).
So I went for another flight and had no problems, however I'd sure like to
have another wastegate actuator just to make it idiot proof 'cause I've been
known to be an idiot on occasion. Since I know there's a few turbo
installations out there using manual wastegate control I thought I'd ask on
the list to see if anybody has one they'd like to sell.
