I had a simular problem a few years ago with my rotary
Long EZ but the engine quit on take off (300 ft AGL)
on a short runway.  I went in like a lawn dart in a
cow pasture.  I knew of the problem of "stuff" in my
tank and did clean out the gascolator several times
(and the tank) I just didn't get it all out.  Without
the gascolator the engine would have flamed out much
sooner anyways.  Hope to have the Long EZ back in the
air late this year.   Ron
Dug into the airplane today looking for the problem.
 Picture of the
gascolator screen attached shows the trouble . Screen was completely
blocked with debris.  The white flakes are pieces of
tank sloshing compound.
(DO NOT USE THIS STUFF) Most of the blockage was
from tiny lint fibers (dark
stuff) that always turns up in the screen.  I just
let too much time go by
between checks.  It has been more than a year since
last cleaning.
