Thanks Ed,
I sorta (that's Southern) remember Tracy saying that the LS1 coils saved 5 lbs so your guesstament seems reasonable (if Tracy really said that???).  I hope that your amp estimate is also close - I have a note from Tracy saying that the Mazda coils draw a peak of 8 amps but only an average of 4 amps.
