wrong again. My caps lock was on. Sorry.

Man, sure had to sort through a lot of bad URL's  :-)

It's normal to have some side to side play in the turbo shaft, but there should not be any end to end play.  It was explained to me that the shaft runs on a layer of oil, so it has some slop when there's no oil flow.  Not a perfect explanation, but I can live with it.  The wheel should not be able to touch the wall of the turbo housing due to side play.  If it can, I'd suspect that's bad.

I'm pricing a rebuilt turbo with modifications as described in http://www.turbonetics.com.au/ATS_p&s_12a_13b.htm

Good boy :-)

I don't know what the "gum" is, but it sure sounds like it came from the exhaust.  Perhaps it could be the leftovers from burnt oil, or coolant.  Just don't know.  Is the inside if the exhaust pipe gummy as well?  Are you missing anything that could have been injested into the engine and spit out as goo?

Rusty (your POV is in-hand, and will be on it's way to you tomorrow)
