John,
I had something similar happen during one of my fast taxies.  At about 3500 or so, it just started to falter.  I backed off the throttle, and tried again.  Same result.  I checked my mixture, and it was on the lean side at about 10 o'clock, so I turned it to 2 o'clock, tried it again, and away it went.  Since then, I take off a little rich.

Don't know if that helps any.

Steve

Subject: [FlyRotary] Power loss diagnostics

Fellow rotarians,
I'm trying to discover what caused the power loss during my last flight. There was some black "gum" on the prop. Has anyone seen this before?  I'm beginning to suspect that I was running on one set of plugs, but restricted fuel flow has also been suggested.

Anyone who's inclined to apply their knowledge & experience to this, please take a look at:

Suggestions and thoughts welcome, as always.
Regards,
John Slade
