My understanding of how the EM-2 works, it would allow you to adjust the map table without the engine running. Maybe this would help you resolve the problem.
My plan is to try moving the primary injectors to the stock location and see if that helps. Maybe the Mazda engineers know something that we don't?

Is the "lean-surge region" a common term. I have said in previous posts
that the toughest region is where, as you describe, there is not enough RPM
to lower the MAP.
The problem is, how do I fix it? Mode 3 won't (and doesn't) help because it
just shifts the MAP table. I think Tracy might be right in that I need to
allow for a longer pulse duration by getting smaller injectors or lowering
the fuel pressure (or both). However, the car ran just fine at idle with my
injectors, and Al seems to have made his work.
I ordered a set of smaller injectors off of e-bay. It is running good
enough for the time being.
