wouldn't the most stylish approach be a new motor mount plate? that way
you can reposition the prop where you want, too.

I asked about
this a week or two ago, and Fred said that it could probably be done. The
problem is that it will screw up tons of items, to the point where it just isn't
worth doing. Also, today I noticed that it doesn't look possible to move
the engine enough by using the mount plate. The top rings of the mount are
only about 3/8" from the engine, so the engine can't be moved enough
to remove the offset. There would have to be a whole lot
more space to move, in order to A- correct the offset, and B- keep the prop hub
in the correct position. Just ain't gonna
happen.
I measured the
actual offset of the prop today, and it's 1.26 degrees to the left. The
gear appears to be about .2 degrees to the right. If I offset the mount,
I'd end up using a .5" shim on the left side, to give me a zero offset for
the prop. This would give me a 1 degree offset to the right for
the main landing gear. I think I could probably live with
this. As I see it, this is my only reasonable
option.
I don't know what I'll
do yet. I signed up for a -C drive today, and sent my deposit, but
I'm sure I could put that toward my prop when Tracy comes up with a
final price for shipping. The smart thing to do, would be to wait and see
what it will cost to convert my B drive to a C, and take that time to clean up
the airframe, and get some good numbers using Tracy's old prop. At that
point, I could decide if I wanted to pursue this.
What I'd really like
to know from Tracy, is what his current climb rate is. He said his VSI is
pegged, at what value? Also, his EM-2 has a VSI, which I'm sure isn't
pegged. This will make or break my 2.85 drive
decision.

pants, and adding coolant, flying tomorrow)
