Very sad to hear this,  my sympathy and best wishes to Ian.  Hope= he is back in the saddle again soon.

It's possible I misunderstood the explanation but the theory of why t= his happened seems unlikely.  The sudden expansion of coolant would hav= e to be incredibly fast to cause an overpressure due to not being able to ge= t out through the overflow tube fast enough.

I didn’t think so myself. Looks like the hose just blew?

It sounded like what happened to my water pump inlet hose on my test stand = one day.  It blew off during a test run simply due to the hose clamp no= t being tight enough.  Was using that clear nylon reinforced hose which= takes a while to seat in and requires re-tightening until it does.  &n= bsp;My bad, but it reminded me to check the one on my plane regularly.

I’m planning to use spring loaded hose clamps. They maintain the s= ame clamping force regardless of material shrinkage or expansion.
