The only place you could measure accurately would be the center (fore and aft) of the (symmetrical) tank. Small asymmetries would have small impact on accuracy as would small departures from the center of the tank. Measuring from the end of the tank would be of little use unless you calibrated your dipstick for that position. Just a theory .... Jim S.
