John,
Take it to an alternator rebuild shop.  Every one I've gone to will test it
free.  They will tell you how much current it will produce, check diodes, etc.
They have a book that they can check which lead is "I" and which is "F" for you
and check the "I" lead function.  That's what I did on a couple of alternators I
picked up at wreck yards and didn't know exactly what they came off of.
Worked for me .... Jim S..
