Again I'll display my ignorance.

According to this chard from Summit

NGK Iridium IX
        Spark Plugs BR10EIX

a higher number from NGK means the plug will run colder.

Why is the stock leading plug (RE7A) designed to run hotter than the trailing (RE9B)? The trailing plugs are "protected" by a small hole to the combustion chamber so would expect them to see cooler temps.
