Thanks Neil
Steve
Steve, The fuel tech timing from memory is still only about 18 degrees BTDC at full noise. Neil. Hi Guys I realised I made a mistake with reading the timing. I was adding the 5 deg ATDC, instead of adding -5 deg. Today I sought to check the maximum advance of the timing. Nearly blew Dad of the front of the Glasair! With the prop pitch full fine the manifold pressure was only 14.5’ At 5000 rpm it appeared the advance had maxed out at approx 23 deg BTDC. At 1750rpm idle timing was approx 8 deg BTDC I will now try and fine tune the timing in flight and see if can take any further advance. Can anyone comment on their maximum advance of their timing?
Thanks Dave.
I’m guessing a feature like that adjusts the flash and enables you to dial in what you want and then your just looking for the reference marks to line up. I would imagine that makes it easier instead of having to mark out whatever your reading from.
I’d still like to have a definitive process to move forward with from Tracy as the designer.
Cheers
Steve

Hello Steve,
I used the stock timing marks with a timing light. My timing light has an advance\retard feature. Yes very windy!!!
Thanks, Dave Williams

Thanks guys.
Dave, did your measure the timing with a timing light and with the prop on? Must have been pretty windy getting that data!
I’ll mark up the ring gear with a TDC mark this morning and measure the current EC2 base Mode timing
Which method do people prefer to get TDC? I think I have read about these 3 methods. 1. Rotor #1 equal Screwdriver depth to rotor face through both plug holes 2. Rotor #1 volume null using water in a tube - I think this might be from Lynn H 3. Rotor #2 bisecting Apex seal across T & L spark plug hole
Can anyone else tell us their nominal timing at idle. Ours is ~1800rpm. And particularly anyone running a 4 port renesis like Tracy’s RV4.
Cheers
Steve
