Jeff,
Using an oil / separator with 1" tube "T" off oil filler neck. The
bottom 1" hose dumps at the cowling exit and the small drain back tube
is plumbed to a baby food jar for visual monitoring. The draining back
tube should be plumbed back to the oil pan and it was at one time. A
couple of years back I change the gearbox oil return lines to individual
feeds and needed the return port for the second gearbox drain line.
About a year ago I started seeing a small amount of oil film collecting
at the top right wing \ flap junction starting at the fuselage and
extending outboard about 16 inches. The oil film has been slowly
increasing. I believe its venting out of the baby food jar because I had
a fuel pressure sender leak that collected fuel at the same location
earlier this year. When cold, the engine feels a little looser when
pulling it through with the prop. Once I pull it through 2-3 turns it
feels tighter and I get nice loud pops. The engine may also be a little
down on power.

Thanks Bobby; I haven't stretched the legs too far on my machine yet but
am hoping to make Oshkosh next summer ... 1600 miles round-trip.
What indicator or capture method lets you know about the vented oil
vapor?

Jeff,
Congratulation on the 100 hour mark. I'm a little over 300 flight hours
and the Hobbs shows about 400 hrs. I just completed a 18.5 hr / 2262
mile trip. I'm venting more oil vapor so it's about time to check
compression.
