Did some further engine runs and final dynamic balance of the prop yesterday.
With a little fiddling around we had the prop balanced to below 0.9ips so I’m happy with that.
Did some power runs, the engine feels very smooth and predictable now though still haven’t done any mode 1 / 9 tuning of the EC2.
It seems to be pretty close throughout the rev range with a few corrections of the manual mixture. May try using the autotune feature.
The OAT was only about 17C - 63F.
Ran her up and found the H2O temp stabalised at ~200F and the Oil at ~190. This was at at around 2000RPM (700 Prop RPM)
If I ran it up full noise for 20 seconds temps would rise but then settle back to those numbers a few minutes latter.
Not sure how that will translate when the OAT is 36C - 97F! Will it stabilise at a higher temp or runaway.
On the cooling side, since I can’t safely retract the gear while doing some power runs, I’m planning to seal off the
retractable nose gear door hole with cardboard and tape and see how this effects the cooling.
We were going to taxi it for the first time yesterday as e’ve heard from others that a little forward movement makes a difference to cooling
airflow, but found the right brake was spongy so this will have to wait. If we can fix the brakes, I hope to have it moving under its own power
for the first time next week.
