That's what I did....I purchased a 5/8 heater nipple from CarQuest that had
a 1/2"NPT fitting, and the machinist turned it down on a lathe for a press
fit. Took me at least 1/2 hour to tap that thing into the hole with a
plastic dead-blow hammer (the last 1/8 of an inch took the longest), but
even a hand grenade won't get that fitting out.  The fitting I purchased had
a slightly smaller ID hole through it, so it left a little thicker wall than
the original pipe. The original pipe was easily distorted to being out of
round because of it's thin wall.  Hope this helps.  Paul Conner
