Subject: Getting There, New Exhaust and Radiator Setup
Expecting to re-launch my bird pretty soon – probably late November. Spent the past 2+ years rebuilding after an unfortunate cornfield forced-landing in June of 2012. I fabricated a new 2-into-1 header type exhaust and replaced my marginal radiator with
the 2-58185-X Griffin unit that Tracy and others had selected. See attached photos. So far engine is running good with minimal MAP tuning; will be going through the full process soon. Happy to report that temperatures are staying well within normal operating
ranges with extended ground running; previous install was also good in this area – was worried the radiator mounted as it is now would not perform without forward movement. So far with prop-blast and rpms kept under 3200 engine is cooling when stationary;
was able to taxi around for first time yesterday (60F) for about ten minutes with no concerns. I hope to get the same test pilot/instructor to do the test flight and give me some more TD time. Will report further after flight testing.
