All,
I could write a book on my unfortunate dealings with Eggenfellner.  My original Redrive never even flew before it was grounded by Egg himself, but he would graciously would allow me to buy the upgraded model for something like $5000 with no compensation for the one I bought with the original package.  I just cannot believe this bloke is allowed to still operate, he should have been “caressed”  with a brick years ago.   The fact that his redrive has failed does not surprise me at all, everything about his work seemed dodgy with his clients doing all his R & D.  Neil.

Bill,

Was this a report on Eggenfelner (sp?) drives? If so, you know almost all you need to know. :-)

If you aren't familiar with his story, it won't take long to find a long, bloody trail of on-line info about him. He has a long history of throwing together a pig, covering it with lipstick, and then forcing his customers to buy his next experimental pig when the previous pig dies.

Don’t know if it has any bearing on the topic, but one thing to note is that the rotary is much easier on the gear train.  There are no torque reversal regions in its cycle as there are with piston 4 stroke engines.  Also the power impulse is a bit smoother (covers more deg of rotation) than with a piston engine.  So what may survive with the rotary, may not with a piston engine.  Tracy has certainly studied this area and will undoubtedly have more astute observations.

I have the NTSB report on the PSRU failure for the Subes.  The file is too large ~700 kb to send to the list.  Anyone interested can email me and I will send them a copy.

I am wondering if there are there any things we can learn about our PSRUs from this?  Does this spline failure bring any ideas for inspections that we perhaps should do?  Tracy??

Bill
