Bill,
In the helicopter I fly we have a fire detection system and an extinguishing system. First step of the EP for an engine fire is "Confirm Fire" - stick your head out and see if it is actually on fire. The point being that sunlight can cause a false indication. I have a crewman who can look aft to see. would there be anyway to look back in the pusher to see if there are fire indications?
I have also flown behind systems that used a heat sensor that are much more accurate - I dont think they would work well in a rotary though.
Dont know the UV Tron system but something to think about.

Yes, that was me. No, I'm not using it presently. I think the sensor failed, and I never bought a replacement. It is called a UV Tron sensor. If you google "UV Tron fire detection sensor" you will get lots of information on how to utilize this device. There are companies that sell a pre-built circuit board with sensor.
Good luck. Mark
