I think that Airnav uses FAA data. No one here is particularly
interested in waking the dragon. :-)
I use premium E-free mogas from a station in downtown Jackson in the
Lyc powered RV-4. Low octane E-free is available from a station
about 4 miles north of the airport in Flora MS. For nationwide info
(might not have current info), try
http://pure-gas.org/
The 'crash site' is a compilation of Cessna 195 tailcone, wings from
an ultralite of unknown lineage, various empannage components, etc.
Makes a nice target, and believe it or not, it took a direct hit
last year (the only hit in over 300 drops that day :-) ).
Did you find the videos on youtube?

Charlie,
That
explains a couple of things. I saw
that plane that looked like a crash site on the
other side of the runway.
I thought that it might be someone like myself
that had tried to land on
turf. :>)
I also
noted that AirNav lists the length
as 3540 but your invite listed it as 4800. You
can up date AirNav if it
is inaccurate.
Where would
one come across non-ethanol
Mogas?

Ahh,
that was our annual Pumpkin Drop. You can put
that on your calendar, too. 1st Saturday in
November each year. Come on down
for some great Cajun food & lots of fun
re-destroying the a/c you can see
on the other side of the runway.
Shame Google didn't pull images the previous
year; we had a P-51 & Corsair
parked where the two Beech 18's are parked.
Try Youtube: 'Slobovia Pumpkin Toss', or just
'Slobovia Outernational' for a
few videos of prior years.
Sorry; I've forgotten what you fly, but anything
other than a large bizjet or
one of the original Eze's should be fine. The
brown in the google earth image
is just dying grass (early November); the field
is actually in great shape.
Official length is 3540', but it was extended
about a decade ago to around 4800'.
Width is 80'. For a handle on the range of a/c
that have been here, we've had a
Mitsubishi MU-2 land for an airshow (and leave,
safely), & the Blockbuster
Blimp has done a touch & go on the runway. A
Swearingen SX-300 visits
often. There was a Beech Baron based here for
years. A Velocity sheltered here
during one of the hurricanes that hit New Orleans
(pre-Katrina). So find someone local with turf
time & get them to fly with you on a local
grass strip to get comfortable,
& you'll be fine. Grass is much more
forgiving than pavement. Just keep the
stick back while taxiing if you fly a nose
dragger to keep the weight off the
nose gear (not really needed here, but good
policy anytime when pushing a nose
wheel around).

Charlie,
What was
going on there last Nov 4??
The Google earth view shows over 30 aircraft
parked on the ramp! AirNav
says only 13 are based there!
What shape
is the turf runway in? I
am somewhat concerned about landing on turf.
Talk to me guys!

Charlie,
I'll see if I can get
Bobby, and Dennis, and possibly
Chris to attend. Can you imagine the sound of
a flight of 4 rotaries
buzzing along in formation? Awesome!

Mark, can you motivate your buddies out

your 3 rotor experiences?
Sorry to be a day late in responding; it
took the power company over 20 hrs to
get us back on line after the storm last
night.
Thanks,

[FlyRotary] Official Invite:
Alt. Engine Seminar @ Slobovia
Outernational
Airport
OK boys
& girls, here's your official
invitation
to our rotary/alternative engine
seminar here at Slobovia
Outernational (2nd
hosting of the Millennium and the
first this decade :-) ).
I'll be working up a cheat sheet
with driving directions for those
who haven't
visited in the past. For flying
info, just plug 'MS71' into Airnav's
airport
search function. You can also find
us using Google Maps.
For those who don't know, we live
just north of Jackson MS on highway
49 N at
an airport community known as Slobovia
Outernational
Airport.
Slobovia is a private ('restricted'
on the Memphis
sectional) airport, so typical 'land
at your own risk' cautions apply.
Most of our bedrooms in the house
are already spoken for by 'early
adopters', but we have lots of floor
space in the den and hangar with air
beds
& air mattresses (bring a
bedroll & towel/wash cloth, if
you can).
You're welcome to tent-camp or park
your (earth-bound) RV in the yard,
or if
you prefer, there's a private
campground with hookups about 2
miles away.
Hotels are about 20 minutes away in
Madison, Ridgeland, and Jackson.
Feel free
to call (1:00PM-9:00 PM if calling
on a weekday) or email for more info
on
hotels, etc.
If you're willing to do a
presentation, *please* give me a
call or drop me a
line. We all love to get together
for fun/fellowship, but we also want
to soak
up as much new info as possible when
we get together. I'll have a sound
system,
computer, video projector and
overhead projector available for
presentations.
Tentative schedule is arrivals any
time on Friday Sept. 28 (Thursday's
fine if
weather dictates) with supper at a
local restaurant,
presentations/discussions/plane
rides on Saturday with meals here at
the
airport, and supper Saturday night
an another local restaurant. Sunday
we'll
keep open for discussions, rides,
etc, and departures, for those who
must
go home (or want to party
elsewhere).
After getting your collective 'ok'
to open it up for all alternative
engines, I
spoke with Patrick Panzera from
Contact Magazine about promoting it,
& he
thought we might get up to 200
people if he promoted it as such in
the mag.
Since it's just my wife & I
managing the logistics, that would
be more than
we could handle. So, I'm sending the
1st invitation to the rotary list.
If
there's still some capacity left
after your RSVP's, I'll let Patrick
promote it
through his magazine with an open
invitation to all alternative engine
groups.
Looking forward to seeing y'all in
September,
Charlie & Tupper
