But, given he had no previous problems and then consider it was a hot day and he had done an extended high power run up before take off - its my estimate that he probably encountered a possible "Vapor Lock". The fact that the engine did not stop running, it simply lost power is also consistent with disrupted (but not stopped) fuel flow associated with percolating overheated fuel in the line. But, you just never know when it's a one time happening - could possible have been something else - but, nothing else seems to fit as well as a fuel problem.
