Kevin,
My design is very similar to yours except I used a 3/8" mating flange.  The 
problem I encountered was how to do the welds where the intake runners meet 
with the flange.  I ended up oversizing the holes and welding them from the 
inside.  (Sorry, no pictures).  After welding, I had the flange resurfaced.
