1/4" bolts is ridiculous overkill, too.  I used 5/16" out of construction expediency.  That was the size of the holes in the clutch plate after I removed the rivets.  I considered building a set of custom bolts with a .045" high shoulder to center them in the clutch plates hole, and then be smaller to pass through the adapter plate.  I considered it for about 30 seconds, then put an order into Aircraft Spruce for some -5 AN hardware 8*)
