My experience so far with about 30 hours on my RV-4. All fuel flow numbers are from the EFISM which so far seems to be pretty accurate. During full power takeoff and initial climb (525' MSL) I see about 16GPH. At 8000' and full throttle with the mixture monitor registering mid range I see about 9.4GPH. Same altitude and throttle setting but leaned somewhere around 100 - 125 LOP I see about 8.2GPH. At this setting I'm cruising at approx 180MPH true. Compare that with 7.8GPH and approx 170 true that I used to get at cruise in my former airplane, an RV-6A with 160HP Lyc and fixed pitch Sensenich metal prop.

I'll probably be doing a lot more tweaking and learning as time goes on, but as of now the RV-4 appears both faster and thirstier than the -6A was.

For info, the engine is a 13B normally aspirated with NA rotors and turbo housings (no exhaust splitters). The PSRU is Tracy's original RD-1 with 2.17:1 ratio and the prop is a wood Warnke. Currently appears that I am under powered/over propped slightly. There may be a new RD-1C and prop in my future somewhere down the road.

Pretty impressive burn with the turbo. Finishing up my PPL this and next week, just getting excited about getting my Cozy finished up and flying it.

Hi David,
I tend to leave my EM2 set to show mixture and must admit I don't pay much attention to fuel flow. If the engine's running smoothly and the mixture's in the middle the fuel flow (shown by the EM2) isn't going to tell me much. The few times I checked I think it was showing anywhere between 7 - 8 gph at a gentle cruise and 13 or so at higher throttle settings.  I don't think I've ever checked it on take-off  (too busy watching temps and mixture). I usually flight plan for 10 gph and that seems to work out fairly well. If I ever get to less than 5gals in either side I consider it time to land and get fuel.
Regards,
John

Just fishing for some fuel burn rates that every one has been seeing.

John Slade, curious what kind of burn rate you are seeing with your setup as mine will be very similar.
