You've got it in the right
ball park, Rusty. I also eliminate the stock cowl air intake and put
my oil scoop there. See my oil scoop, it is 10.5" wide and averages
2 .5" high for around 26 square inches. An Aussie, Ian ,appears to get
away with a bit smaller inlet (his the white bird). I suggest making the
bottom lip with a bit of a smooth airfoil like entrance to ensure that when you
have the nose up in a climb that air will still be induced to flow around the
lip and into your scoop.
Thanks for the comments, and pics
Ed. I spent some time at the hanger this afternoon, and have decided that
the evap core is somewhere in the top 10 wonders of the world.
My Setrab just takes up too much
space (long, and wide, but thin) to be able to fit very. Since the bottom
of the cowl is curved, the larger foot print of the Setrab lifts it up higher
than the thicker evap core. I found that I can slide the
3rd evap core just under the starter, and be able to sneak the exhaust
pipes out behind it. The fittings will even end up being on the right
side, which is perfect. Mounting it will be a breeze, and even the scoop
won't be that bad to make. This is just going too well, so I must be doing
something wrong :-)
Now, for another question. Is there such a thing
as a compact oil filter, that has a remote filter mount available? My old
remote filter mount, and filter is HUGE, and heavy. What are my
compact oil filter options?
Now, a question primarily for Leon, and Todd- Now that
I'm back to my plan of using the stock pump, and one EWP, I'm trying to sort out
the mounting options. What just occurred to me today, is that I can cut
off most of the inlet pipe on the stock water pump housing, and weld on a flange
that will bolt right to the outlet of the DC EWP. I realize this is
a plastic flange, but I don't think it will have any trouble holding the weight
of the pump. I will have to be careful to clamp the inlet hose to the EWP
to an engine part, so it doesn't put any extra strain on the pump.
Assuming all that, do you see anything wrong with this mounting plan? If
it looks too flimsy, I can always add a brace from one of the water pump bolts,
to one of the otherwise useless mounting tabs on the
EWP.
Thanks,
Rusty (wishing some parts had arrived, so I'd have
something other than cowl to work on)
