Kelly,
When I started building the RV-4 I kept a hand
written builders log. For about a month. 13 years later when time came for the
inspection I had to try to re-create a log for my DAR inspection. I spent about
a month with the plans, receipts, pictures, etc... trying to reconstruct my
build and enter it in an Excel spreadsheet. I finally had a pretty decent log
after a months worth of work. And the DAR never asked to see it! After asking
various detailed questions about the build and my engine installation I guess he
was convinced I was the builder. Another wasted month in the build
process....
Merry Xmas to all!

Bill,
I bought the plans for the Delta in 1968 !!...............Been
tinkering with building it for
over 40 years off and on but had never really documented any expenses or
time spent
for construction.............Started building a "Cassutt" after viewing the
Delta plans as it
is a welders nightmare and my welding experience at that time consisted of
a few hours
with a "Buzz Box" arc welder..............Gained enough gas welding
experience on that
project to attempt the Delta............At that time all I had to do was
give the FAA a
notarized statement that I had personally constructed over 50 % of the
aircraft.........
I now have to document and construct a log with photos of all that
has been done
by me as I understand that the DAR's do not like to just take your world
that you
have built the majority of an aircraft.............On top of all that I
became interested in
the Rotary Engine in the middle 1980's which added to the complexity of the
project
since as we all know the Rotary just started to become a viable alternative
engine after
Tracy built his RV4 and started flying it in the middle 1990's..........My
first purchases
for a flying Rotary were a "Ross" 2.85 psru and Tracy's "Dual Ignition
System" which
was his first product after being hounded by many of us............This is
what let to his
now very successfull mini industry that he had no intention of starting
..........I have now
purchased at least one of most of Tracy's products except his 2.17
psru..........But I
and several other on the list were responsible for him producing the 2.85
psru after
hounding him for several years............Who knows I may even live long
enough to
get the Delta in the air.........But if I don"t my kids are going to have a
lot of expensive
parts to sell to you guys (I consider all the group as friends even those I
have yet to meet)
at bargain prices as they do not have a clue what any of it is
worth.............

Kelly,
Nice summary of Dyke Delta's and why a rotary,
but I didn't find any log entries. Are you just getting set
up?
