Gregg, A friend sent me an e mail
with those photos some weeks ago and here was my response:
There was a K7 aircraft(see actual photo
below) but those supposed “photographs” are digital fakes.
It’s amazing what you can do by manipulating
(or creating) a photo with digital technology, but whoever did this went a bit
overboard. 1st there was no colored photography in the Soviet Union at that time – that I am aware
of. 2nd the detail in the photograph is as sharp from
one end as it is at the far end. 3rd The Guns are obviously a
joke – I mean a heavy cruiser would not mount that much artillery {:>)
4th given the secrecy of that era I doubt seriously there would be
children in the photo (I could be wrong about children – but some small
folks are in the photo which resemble children)
Here is what the real K7 looked like
– impressive enough for its time, but not this joke. Note there are only
six (a few less that the 12 claimed on front and more on the back)
engines and NO artillery.
