Chris,
Are you sure of the Dynon offer?  I just looked at their site and it seems
to me that they are offering a trade in of your used box at half of the
current price.  Your D-100 is now $2400, so they would give you $1200 toward
the Skyview on a trade.  They might up the ante for the battery as well??
If you need the grey code converter, you will need it for the new system as
well.  Dynon stuff puts out serial data to the transponder and the new ones
can read it. (GTX327, GTX330, etc)  If you have an older transponder you
will need to keep the converter.
If they are offering a better deal than that, I didn't see it.

Nope, no engine monitor.  That is the 180 IIRC.  This is the D-100 with the
bright screen upgrade, internal battery and (off the top of my head, the
grey code encoder.  I will have to look to determine the rest.

Yeah, I don't know if Dynon plans on coming down on the new price as there
still seems to be a market.  The previous generation of stuff is still a
nice unit and still considerably cheaper than the SkyView. Also, since they
are offering (what seems to be) 50% off the cost of a new SkyView for
previous owners the market seems ripe to stay pretty close to the original
price.  The Dynon Support site/forum discusses how they want to bang out the
details to positively impact current/loyal customers.  They seem to be
erring on the side of generosity.  I know it has worked for me.  I am a
loyal Dynon customer.  I saw my first unit at Osh in 2002.  My emails back
then were answered in a very cordial and positive manner, thus planting the
seed for future purchases.

I want to be able to give someone a good deal, however, if I am
understanding Dynon's intent, I am likely good for half the cost of a new
SkyView from them, hopefully with minimal hassle (no worries about personal
checks etc).  If I read it right that means at least $1950.  On the forum
they discussed a bit, again while qualifying they were still determining the
details, how they wanted to be able to be more helpful if you had originally
purchased additional modules/add on's like the battery and I would speculate
things like the brighter screen, larger screen and/or grey code encoder.
Donno really.  I have battled if I need to upgrade.....NOPE, I don't.  I do
want to though <g>  Even at "just" $1950 off, I still think it is a pretty
sweet deal, especially with the future possible additions Dynon states it is
developing...like radio, transponder and of course the moving map and HITS.
Of course perhaps I have misunderstood completely and they only intend to
give half of the original equipments purchase price.  If that is the case,
the total original cost is even more important.  However, I don't think that
is what they are doing....seems that would be a false economy just for the
potential hassle.

Hmmmm, I wonder if the upgrade is only for the original purchaser?  Also,
the bigger question, is how long will they honor it.  If forever, purchasing
the previous gen could be hedging inflation a bit by being able to use the
old equipment a while, then trade it when ready. Of course, I would think
this would not be a great business model.  I am happy with what they may be
trying to do now.  It go my attention.

Heck, right now my bird is setting on the city tie down ramp, getting rained
on, waiting for the hangar roof repair to begin.  It broke my heart to taxi
my project...uh, plane (almost) from my hangar to the tie down area
yesterday.  It was kinda kewl getting on a borrowed hand held radio to
request taxi clearance ("Ellington Ground, Velocity 17010....."<g>).

It looked so...abandoned sitting out there <sniff>.  No worries though, the
Dynon is safe and sound (hopefully) sitting on my dining room table.
