Bernie,
Simply search dual mass flywheel. VW uses several. The big Ford may use a multi-plate clutch to handle torque which would push the price up. I don't know if it's a TV issue or not. Lots of manufacturers are turning to novel methods to tame VNH issues. If a sophisticated system solves several problems it is worth using despite the cost.

You know, Bill, your mention of  "dual mass flywheels" just turned on a lightbulb in my brain

Some time ago the clutch disc (manual transmission) in my turbo-diesel F-350 broke apart. The dealer informed me that the flywheel got really gouged up and that I needed a new flwheel. Turned out the flywheel price was a shock at $1200,. The dealer said it was a two-piece flywheel, but never explained it.

I think this fits with what you said about dual mass flywheels.   Thanks, Bernie
